Emergency Food Considerations:

Regarding specific allergies/sensitivities, it is up to the schools to decide how to handle this. Recommend asking the student’s parents to provide something small to label and put in classroom backpacks. Consult with the school’s nurse/health room (provide the list of ingredients).

Ideas for the POD:

  • Fruits like apples and pears are the most hypoallergenic.
  • Other fruits considered allergy-safe are apricots, bananas, plums and melon.
  • Dried fruit like dried banana chips, raisins, prunes and dried berries are considered hypoallergenic as well.
  • Canned pineapple, peaches, pears, fruit cocktail and applesauce are also widely available and recommended.
