DEIB Year-End Recap 🌱
We wrapped up our final LWPTSA Council DEIB Committee meeting of the year with a sense of deep purpose and renewed energy—thanks to the brilliant insights of our guest speaker, Ilsa Govan, and the open-hearted leadership of our incredible PTSA partners.
Together, we revisited the core definitions of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, grounding ourselves in the vision LWSD has put forth. You can find those updated definitions and the full presentation here:

But this wasn’t just theory—we practiced what we preach. Through “serial testimony,” we each reflected on what belonging truly means—how it feels, smells, even tastes—all in just 2 minutes. No commentary. No fixing. Just presence and listening.
We spoke about our students—especially those still seeking a place where they feel seen, safe and valued. And we named a hard truth: When belonging is absent, students may carry the weight of emotional distress, behavioral challenges and academic struggle.
As parents and leaders, we carry a shared responsibility: to reduce that harm, and expand that sense of belonging—for every student, without exception.
Belonging is not just a popular talking point.
It is a daily practice. A moral obligation. A quiet, persistent act of care.
This meeting reminded us that creating inclusive spaces takes more than good intentions. It takes courage, humility and consistent action.
As I take time to reflect on my own learning this year—as a leader, a parent and a human committed to doing better—I am filled with gratitude. Thank you for walking this journey with me.
We’re excited to welcome a new 2025-2026 DEIB Committee Chair—ready to lead, connect, and build on all we’ve begun—with you.
Wishing you a restful summer. Keep growing the work. Wherever you go, take belonging with you.
With gratitude,
Zahra Eslami
