Training Opportunities
Are you looking specifically for training opportunities to fulfill your yearly requirement? Find available classes here:
Are your PTA finances secure? Hear from WSPTA leaders on how to write your policies and plan your procedures in order keep your PTA finances safe. We will talk about avoiding scams and protecting your PTA from embezzlement. This meeting will be in a roundtable format.
This is the most important and useful class of them all, as it will prepare you and your fellow officers to run your PTA with an eye toward the important legal and fiscal requirements in running a nonprofit. PTA and the Law deals with state and federal rules and regulations relevant to running a charitable, tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation in the state of Washington, and will explain how these rules impact your PTA. PTA and the Law is a required class for at least one elected officer per PTA each year.
WSPTA Region 2 (that’s us!) PTA leaders have an upcoming in-person opportunity to attend free training classes, including “Managing Your Nonprofit PTA,” “Nominating Committee,” “Easy Opportunities for Advocacy” and more.
Register here. Questions? Contact ptareg2@wastatepta.org.

WSPTA has selected February 10-14, 2025, for when we will sharpen our advocacy for our Top 5 legislative issues. During this week, WSPTA will send action alerts to members who have signed up to help. Each action alert will provide an easily customizable message that the system will automatically forward to your legislators on your behalf. It is easy to do, only takes a few minutes, and helps boost our advocacy efforts. Your voice matters!

Your actions throughout this week will be quick and easy but will make a tremendous impact. It will be so easy that you can take action from home, while waiting for a coffee order, or sitting in your child’s pick-up line! We also encourage you to share your advocacy work on your personal and PTA social media accounts throughout the week using the hashtag #WSPTAOneVoice.

Join WSPTA for Focus Day on Monday, February 17, 2025, in Olympia! Come advocate to close the funding gaps and ensure financial stability for schools and other vital issues that impact students around the state! All WSPTA members are welcome. Bring your children to join in the fun! We need your stories, we need your voice, we need you!
New Venue: WSPTA reserved space across the street from the Capitol at the United Churches of Olympia (110 11th Ave SE, Olympia) to network with fellow PTA advocates and hear from lunchtime speaker Chris Reykdal, WA Superintendent of Public Instruction. Please note that WSPTA is not in the Columbia Room at the Capitol this year.
The venue will be open from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. The agenda is available on Eventbrite and will be included in the Focus on Advocacy newsletter as updates are made. In addition, we will be offering docent-led tours of the Capitol grounds (limited availability) and box lunches at an additional charge.
We are encouraging members to schedule meetings with their legislators this day (even if you need to schedule remote meetings). It is important to reach out to legislators as soon as possible.
The event is free. Information on the venue and parking can be found here. Register today!
