PTA and the Law is a vital training for your entire board. This is one of the most important classes you will take every year.
PTA & The Law is THE class for all PTA officers to take — this covers everything you need to know about running your PTA business in a legal, responsible manner. All PTAs are required to have at least one elected officer take this training each year, but everyone is encouraged to participate in this valuable training! This training is being sponsored and hosted by the Riverview PTSA Council, but officers from any PTA are welcome to attend. A link to the handbook and presentation slides will be sent to you via email prior to the event; please print your own copies or bring a personal electronic device to access materials (hard copies will not be provided).
PTA and the Law deals with state and federal rules and regulations for running a charitable, tax-exempt nonprofit corporation in Washington state and will explain how these rules can and do affect your PTA.
- Learn what it means to be a nonprofit organization registered with the state of Washington. How do you maintain nonprofit status? What laws must your PTA obey?
- If you write a newsletter, run a raffle, work on an event with student helpers, serve alcohol at an event, enter into any contracts, file taxes with the IRS, or hold meetings, this class is for you.
- Laws and regulations can change every year, so whether you went last year, have not been in a few years, or have never been to this class, this presentation is for any officer or committee chair.
- Per the WSPTA Standards of Affiliation agreement, the annual training requirement states that at least one elected officer must attend PTA and the Law, and all other elected officers must attend at least one WSPTA-approved training before this year’s WSPTA convention. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet this requirement.
Advance registration is required.
