As your PTA’s nominating committee does the important work of identifying the future leaders of your organization, take a moment to consider this work through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Here are a few questions to consider as your PTA looks to bring more voices/perspectives to the future leadership of your organization.
- Are there any barriers to getting a diverse group of candidates before your nominating committee? For example, do you explicitly say that people can self-nominate?
- Do you have an accessible form for interested candidates to complete or do candidates have to know/talk to someone in order to get on the Nominating Committee’s radar?
- Are you thinking of adding a new board position (e.g. a DEI role) and if yes, have you updated your standing rules to reflect this? If you are adding a new position, do you have a job description for the new position?
